Computers with Internet
access, word processing, spreadsheet software, assorted
reference programs, and printing capability ($0.20/per page) are available to
patrons with a valid library card. (Library card MUST be
presented for computer use. Visitors to Lewiston Public
Library may be granted temporary access to computers by
presenting a
government issued ID.)
Minors under 18 years of age
need parental consent to use the library computers.
Ages 13 and under must have adult present to use computers
with Internet access.
The Lewiston Public Library
provides free wireless access throughout the entire
building, allowing visitors to use their privately owned
computer equipment to access the Internet. The Library’s
public wireless network is open to anyone who agrees to
abide by the Library’s Computer/Internet Policy. This policy
prohibits abusive, offensive and illegal activities while
inside the facility or while using the Library’s Internet
connection. Wireless access does not require the completion
of a registration process. Wireless access at LPL is not
filtered.
Wireless is Internet
access using radio frequencies as opposed to using cables.
This enables library patrons to bring their own laptop to
the library and use the library's Internet connection from
anywhere, not just the computer area, in the library. Patron
laptop computers must have a wireless Internet card that
supports the WiFi standard (also known as IEEE 802.11a, b,
or g).
There is no staff
available to assist with setting up wireless Internet on
your computer; you are the person responsible for setting up
your own equipment. Printers are not available via the
wireless connection; if you need to print, save to a floppy
or flash drive and use one of our public workstations to
print. Just bring your laptop with wireless networking card
to the library and connect to the Internet using the
“LPLPrivate” network. No passwords are required and all
visitors are welcome. Please note the speed of the service
will be slower during times when more people are using the
connection.
The Lewiston Public
Library is not responsible for any changes you make to your
computer's settings and cannot guarantee your hardware will
work with our wireless connection. Wi-Fi users assume all
risks and responsibilities associated with using the
Library’s wireless. The Library is not liable for any
consequences of wireless network access including: loss of
data, transmission of computer viruses and the interception
of sensitive data. The Library recommends Wi-Fi users
provide anti-virus protection and appropriate security
settings on their own equipment. |
