The
Frieda C. Bourgon Local History Room
The
Frieda C. Bourgon Local History Room contains hundreds of titles
centering on the history of Lewiston and Niagara County, including
antique Niagara Falls tour guides, an early account of the William
Morgan affair, various titles concerning Native American cultures and a
collection of pieces written by local authors.
Other items include Polk’s Niagara Falls City Directories and a
diverse compendium of regional yearbooks.
The
Niagara County Obituary Database
The
Local History Room is also home to our fully searchable and digitized
collection of Niagara County obituaries. Created and maintained by
genealogy volunteers known as the Dead Beats Society, this
database contains over 5,500 individuals primarily extracted from the
Niagara Gazette Obituary section from 1996 to the present time. A
project is underway to extract death notices from early newspapers, as
well as to include member deaths and burial locations from the recently
discovered Odd Fellows records.
